You are responsible for other personal expenses which include meals, travel, extra uniform items and other incidentals.

All players must be financial with Hockey Victoria’s Invoicing, Fee Collection & Suspension Policy to be eligible for these teams - Click here to read this policy.

State teams will normally consist of between 16-18 players unless the selection panel considers otherwise.

Trial format

1 or 2 Trials. This may change if there are a large number of players for an age group.  This can be in the form of games, skills or fitness based training.
All nominated players must be able to attend all designated Trials.

Final Team Selection

The designated Chairman of Selectors will chair the selection meetings.

Coaches are welcome to have input into decision making, but in a deadlock situation the final decision will be made by a vote of all on the selection panel

The HV State Team Coordinator or a designated representative will sit in on all final team selections to oversee the process, but will have no input into team selection. Their job is to ensure all procedures have been followed correctly and that all members of the panel complete and sign off on the team sheet.

The team sheet will be given to the HV CEO for final ratification.

All non-selected players can request a feedback report if they wish. This request needs to be made within the week following team announcements.

Teams will be announced on the HV website following ratification by the CEO.

If Train-ons are named, they must be ranked positionally for their inclusion into the team if injury occurs at the selection table and this information included onto the official sheet.

Selection Criteria

The following form part of the selection criteria for all Hockey Victoria State teams.

Hockey Competencies

Distribution skills (e.g. pushing, slapping, hitting and overheads)
Defensive capabilities (e.g. tackling, marking and positioning)
Elimination & ball carrying ability
Game Awareness
Penalty corner skills (attacking and defensive)

Trial attendance, current playing level and recent playing history maybe considered as part of the selection process, not just the trial itself.

A player’s attitude, behaviour, leadership and communication skills may also be taken into consideration during all parts of the Trial process.

$40 nomination fee applies (this includes pitch hire, transaction processing fee, HV administration).

1. All players are required to bring a white and a black t-shirt to Trials.

2. No State or Australian uniform is to be worn

3. All players are required to arrive to the trials 30 minutes prior to the scheduled starting time.

Players with known conflicting commitments including other sports, work and/or holidays should put this in writing to prior to the trials commencing. HV reserve the right to not accept holiday’s absences as a reason for non-attendance.

If you are unable to attend due to an injury, you must provide a medical certificate and a copy of your rehabilitation plan that confirms your availability for training and the tournament.
